Olena Fursa * Alliances

Probably every pupil in his life felt himself like an alien in the class he studied. The main reasons of that they’re as follows. Changing of schools and as a result, being a newcomer, when everybody of your new classmates talk, joke with each other, but you don’t know anybody, and just feel yourself like a separate part. But very often this last not very long, cos’ everything changed when you find a friend from your classroom. The bright example of being in such situations is Maria Bachyn’ska, cos’ she changed schools for 5 times. Bad relations with teachers, very often this is a result of pupil’s bad behavior on the lessons of this or that teacher, and at the end - reduction of marks on this subject. For example: Pavlo Turovsky (Ukrainian lessons), Taras Khraban (Biology)… Bad relations with administration of our school, and as a result of this, in 2000-2001school year 7 pupils of our grade went to another school: Shyshov Sasha (September), Sydorenko Dima (October), Atamanenko Sasha (October), Grigoriev Serhiy (December), Kunakh Sasha (December), Trofymets Serhiy (January), Lavrenchuk Ivan (January). And at last, joining of grades, and formation groups of alliances and so-called space.

Yulia Kozak * Breaks

We were studying in school for ten years and now I can say that breaks were one of the most important and loved things at school. I can say that we had enough time to have our rest but remembering myself one or two years ago it always seemed that we had a lack of them. I can’t describe myself as a brilliant student but I always wanted to use the breaks as the time for making my studying better. I read books, studied rules, but it was for nothing. Each time when I came back to school my marks were the same. After ten years of studying in school I’ve made some conclusions. I’d like to give my advice as to breaks. If you have a break please don’t try to study. You’ll have enough time to do it at school. You should visit your friends and talk with them as much as you can not to have problems during the lessons because teachers always want to know why you are chatting during the lesson. They think that you haven’t communicated with friends. Do your best to have a good rest during your breaks. These are the main rules you should do and you won’t think our breaks are too short.

Natalka Buzian * Club

Our club is a special place where we meet from time to time. We come there after classes and discuss different topics. We also listen to music, drink coffee, look through our projects, and photos again and again. We just rest there. That is the unique place in our school because you may come here any time you wish. I’ve spent a lot of time here typing the newspaper, writing letters to Artem, or just spending time in the close company of my friends. In the eleventh grade we met in the club to discuss such topics as “My Last Twenty-four Hours of Life”, “Our Graduation”, “Patriotism in Rock Opera” and others. All the meetings were very interesting. We had a lot of things to talk about and to discuss.

Olena Fursa * Desks

Desks are the integral attributes of all the schools and mostly all of our school life’s we spend setting over this very desks. But in our school desks are not similar on the desks from the other schools cos’ one of the paragraphs of school policy is keeping the desks, so you will never find any blots or cues on them, no matter in what cabinet you came in. We also have special care for them. Every day we clean them, using special cleaning dusters. This is the responsibility of every person who is on duty today.

Nadia Zatsepina * English

English is not the only subject we have to study in school. For us it is one of the ways to communicate with foreigners. These lessons are also the time when we speak about our school, town, other countries of the world, different problems, and our future life. We’ve done a lot of interesting projects and some times we play interesting and funny games. Once a month we came to our club to speak about current events and problems we have in our school and our group. I hope our studying English will help us in our future lives because it’s a language that is used all over the world.

Inna Honchar * Foreigners

During our study in this school we had been learning two foreign languages and we had a great opportunity to communicate with native speakers. All started with having foreign pen pals in the USA. That was our first experience in how to use English. Then we spoke English with Americans face to face. The great event was in 1998 when Michael Ostapuk visited us. It was the first meeting with a foreigner after which Michael became one of the best foreign friends of our school. For three years we studied German and spoke it with our German friend Jorg and his son David who came to us three times from Hannover, Germany. Besides other foreigners visited our school, such as Amy who had practice here, and Tamar an ecologist from the Peace Corps. Amy was a nice girl and we like her lessons, especially the one when she spoke about American slang. Of course the first American girl who speaks Ukrainian almost fluently is Veronica who became our teacher and good friend.

Maria Bachyn’ska * Graduation and Graduaters

This year we’re graduating from school. It was our second home. There we found a lot of friends who we often spoke with. The teachers gave us much knowledge and taught us not only their subjects but also about life. In a month we’ll have our exams and graduating ceremony. We’ll finish this school and it will be forever. It’s hard to imagine us, the eleventh graders, with our certificates standing on the stage of the assembly hall, but it will be so. This is the eighth time that the eleventh graders graduate from school. I hope we are not the worst and the teachers will remember us.

Ira Lukianets’* Headway

For every person it is very important to find a right way in his life. It is a difficult task because all his future life depends on his choice. Now we are going through such a period. We have to choose the way of how to continue our education to find a good job in the future. It’s very important to take into consideration a lot of aspects such as the attitude of this or that profession, our abilities, and the field of interest, financial side of the problem, but most of feel to young. In this situation it’s very useful to listen to advice from parents, close friends, and relatives. The last word must be yours because it’s your life and you are the only one who has to choose your headway. IN this connection I’d like to tell about the series of our English textbooks Headways. It’s organized in a proper way so it’s handy and full of information. The book is divided into units, each of them consist of different parts; grammar, vocabulary, reading, speaking, listening, writing, and post script. At the end of the book there are transcripts and grammar reference. This book is full of information and useful from the point of spoken language.

Lena Borysiuk * Insects

From the very beginning of our school existence there have been problems with insects. They are everywhere. Usually they are brown and big with great antennas. Very often they become the center of students’ attention and teachers don’t like it. During the first years of studying there were a lot of them, but later they started to disappear. When cockroaches run in the classroom girls are crying and boys are killing them. Usually they live on the shelves, plants, and especially in the dining room. To my mind, these insects don’t have any bad influence and I don’t mind their living in our school because I know in China, they are domestic animals, like cats and dogs.

Taras Khraban * Journeys

This year I’m graduating from school. I think that it was a very important period of my life. I think the journeys we had in our group helped us to develop better. It was a very nice group, each member of which was like a sister or brother to me and we lived as one family. To my mind, we became so friendly because we’ve done lots of work together and also had our rest together. Now I am trying to remember the places we went to. We travelled to Lviv, I think it is the best city in Western Ukraine. It was a wonderful and unforgettable trip. We also went to Stryi and Zhytomyr. We traveled a lot, but I must say we also hiked to Olexandrivka. I have to admit that during the journeys we felt ourselves free and became more friendly. How hard is it to realize there will be no more journeys in our grade? We are school graduaters it is such a pity.

Maria Bachyn’ska * Kids

As for me, I think all people are kids but we are kids in an indefinite period of time. Now we are graduating from school and want to be little children very much. We want to run, jump, and dream. I know some of my classmates like watching cartoons and me too. But at this time, our lives don’t allow us to be children because we must work towards our dreams. We are not adults yet, but nevertheless we must think about our future. I will always remember our club meetings that were a part of our childhood. There we told each other funny stories about our childhood, showed pictures, and chatted. We appreciated the meetings during which we traveled back in time to the land of our childhood. For our teachers and parents we’ll always be children.

Katia Ivanets’* Losers

After the time we became one grade our reputation in school was not good. All the teachers say that we stopped studying and don’t want to do anything. Eleventh grade was very interesting; some teachers started to call us bad names. L.A. Kravchuk said that we are nerds. The best one is M.A. Repetska she called us fucking Americans. Somebody says that the former grade A was perfect but when the gray masses of former grade B came to us we became gray too. Nobody can solve this problem. Of course I can’t say that our class is brilliant but we have some people who create an awful atmosphere and we can’t work well. I can’t agree that we are losers, in our grade there are students who had won first places in the town and regional Olympiads.

Katia Ivanets’* Newspapers

This school year was full of different projects. One of them was “Our Group Newspaper”. We had four groups to make a newspaper one by one. The main events of our group life were included into it. All the newspapers had different titles because of different people doing them. We also published some articles from Artem. There were problems while making newspapers. Some of the groups didn’t do their work in time. We published nine issues only instead of twelve. Despite of that, we liked this work and think it is a good kind of practice that helps us in the future.

Ira Lukianets’* Olympus

Olympus is the place for people who are higher than others and have more rights. The same I can say about our school because it is known as one of the best schools in Ukraine. Every year we accept a lot of guests and they’re surprised with the order and neatness. Our school has a brilliant staff of teachers. There were a lot of excellent pupils in its nine years of history. Many pupils are the winners in town, regions, and all Ukrainian Olympiads. Some students wrote research works, there were special conferences where they presented these works. As to our group we also have the Olympus. Every month the ten most active and successful students are chosen to be the best according to some aspects. It is called Top Ten. More often Artem, Ina, Ira, and Katya occupied the first positions. As to research works my group mates wrote them as well. Taras even participated in MAN’s regional finals. Some students from our group write and translate poems. Our teacher made a booklet where all the poems were published. They are beautiful.

Natalka Buzian * Projects

In our school life different projects are very important. I can’t say our English group is very creative, but we have made a lot of interesting projects.

Life is Life, is a kind of work when we have analyzed our lives and made a chain, which showed what happened in our life at definite times. We have known a lot of things about each other.

My Journal, is a project we’ve been making since our seventh grade. We write different articles and the topic might be connected with our every day events, the unit we study, or the latest news.

People to People, this project is connected with our friends from Striy Gymnasium and our corporation. We are still in touch with them writing letters, visiting each other, and exchanging information.

Our Group Newspaper, is one of the most interesting projects. From time to time we publish the newspaper issues where we write about the latest news from our group and grade.

To Be A Teacher, the project that started in the eleventh grade. We conducted English lessons in the 8th grade. It was interesting and useful because we felt ourselves real teachers and realized a lot of things connected with this profession.

These are the main projects, but not all of them. If you want to know more about them you may look through the booklet where you can find the additional information.

Pavlo Turowski * Queues

In each shop when there are fresh food products, like bread or cheap things, there are queues. People cry to each other, fight, and say some dirty words. They want to get these things as quickly as possible. Every day we can see such a situation in our cafeteria. Everyday during the big break when in the cafeteria there are tasty patties students run there after the bell and fight for their places in the queue. But when our principle is there, there is silence and order. Sometimes the students don’t see her especially when she comes suddenly. Thus some of them remain hungry. She likes to jeer at pupils who infringe the queue. She can’t understand that they are children, and the children can’t understand her cruelty. She wants to make them interested in order.

Natalka Buzian * Restrooms

Restroom is a public place to visit. There are no problems with WC’s in our school because we have enough of them. They are clean and are without a nasty smell. Everything could be in a different way nowadays, if not a “WC problem” in the eighth grade. Once our boys had a talk in the restroom that was connected with their attitude to each other. As a result they damaged the door in the restroom and our principle had a serious talk with them. After that our girls went to her office and having tears on their faces asked her not to put them off from our school. Never the less, some students left our school. They were: S. Grygoriev, S. Trofymets, V. Lavrenchuk, S. Artamanenko, D. Sydorenko, S. Kunakh, S. Syshov. It was the beginning of our great destruction.

Grygoriy Danylenko * Shoes

In our school we have to wear shoes. That means that in school we have to change our shoes. Some students have problems with changing their shoes. Strict Natasha at the door and her colleagues always see how students change shoes. That’s why some students have problems. Changing shoes is a good idea, but it doesn’t have to be so strict.

Oleksandr Yakovchuk * Teachers

We have 14 subjects in school and 11 teachers work with us. Their lessons are very interesting, but not all of them. For example, the lessons of Ukrainian are very boring, the lessons of History are interesting but the teacher doesn’t like the pupils and doesn’t respect them. The teacher of Math, to my mind, thinks that she is the queen of the planet and knows all the things in the world. The rest of the teachers in our school are more or less ok, but I know they all hate me, I feel it. That is why I hate them too.

Oleksandr Ishchuk * Uniform

Two years ago we started wearing uniforms. Of course it was our school principle, Kamila Dominikivna’s idea. For a long time it was the main topic to talk about. Almost all the students of our school discussed the new law for about two or three weeks. I know exactly almost all the students didn’t like it. Uniform is a very nice thing but on the other hand not all the students could afford to buy a nice jacket and trousers. But the time passed and almost all of us got used to wearing uniforms. Nobody makes a problem of it now, it’s just the usual thing.

Yulia Kozak * Veto

In our school we have a lot of rules and sometimes they’re very dreadful and our often comparable to vetoes. We often hear from other students that our school is a place of prohibition. Really we have a lot of strict rules that sometimes make us mad. Aren’t you furious each time when you are told to change your shoes. It is forbidden to tough the walls, run and scream during the breaks. Sometimes you have the great desire to scratch something, but you know that for sure you’ll be punished for that. All those things irritate you because you feel like a child and it is unfair to have such a big number of prohibitions at school. I have to say that sometimes I thought so too. But now I understand that prohibitions in our school didn’t influence our independence. They were made by people who didn’t understand our inner world and our behavior. After reading my article, even if you don’t agree with me, I’m quite sure you’ll do so later.

Nadia Zatsepina * X-students

Since our seventh grade we are advanced with studying English. There were 35 of us but in the eighth grade some students left us. The reason was the problem in the restroom as a result six students left. After the ninth grade a lot of students moved to technical schools to study there. They were Natasha Savchuk, Olia Stetsiuk, Liuda Kazakova, Ivan Lavrenchuk and some others.

We miss them all because they were cool guys.

Pavlo Turowski * Youth

It is the best period of life. When we can do some things we can’t do as adults. Most of them are done in school. School years are a rush hour of youth. In school there are a lot of exciting and cool moments. To my mind, it’s the best period of time, when you are young. In school we became elder and understand a lot of important things, which will help us in our future life. Our adult life depends on difficult choices we have to make when we are young. For example, we choose our future profession and start to work hard to make our old age life more careless. This period is the most important in our life.

Taras Khraban * Zoo

What does it mean? It is a place where different animals live. I think our school has some features of a zoo because two dogs, yulia and vampir, lived in our school, like at home. On the one hand they were animals living in school, on the other hand we felt like animals living in the zoo because of such strict rules.

2000-2004 * ЗОЛОТИЙ ЖУРНАЛ

Dear Friends, I’d like to present a booklet with a project called “Golden Journal”. It contains the most interesting articles the 9B students have chosen for publication from their journals. They started writing journals four years ago, in a year 2000 when they came to the sixth grade. They are unique kids, I must say! I’ve been teaching them for almost seven years and can’t help admiring their invariable wish to study English although they are always disturbed by other stuff in their famous grade. First they were eighteen. Every year two or three students left for other cities or countries or moved to other schools. Finally they are eleven and all of them are going to the tenth grade. When they started the project they were told that the main things in their articles were the way they wrote, and thought, and expressed their original ideas, not grammar mistakes. They grow with their journals, you may notice this gradation. While writing the articles they learned how to do it in the best way – that is the ultimate aim I wanted them to gain. I’d like to thank you all for your diligence, accuracy (not always), patience and work done to type the material. With hope for further cooperation,
