Добрий день, діти! Good morning, boys and girls! Or: Good afternoon, everybody! Or: Hello, Form 6! (very informal) How do you do? (only used when one is introduced to a stranger.)
Сідайте. Sit down, everybody. Or: Take your places. Be seated. Or: Take a seat. («Sit down» is the most usual form. It can be used when the pupil is standing at his desk or after he has finished writing on the blackboard).
Де ти зазвичай сидиш? Where do you usually sit? Or: Which is your desk? Where is your regular place?
Пересядь на своє місце. (Go and) sit in your own place, please. Move to your proper place.
Поміняйся місцями з сусідом. Will you change places with the boy(girl) next to you? Change your places with your neighbour. Or: Exchange your places with your neighbour.
Тихіше! Quieten down, please! Or: Don't be so noisy! Or: Don't make so much noise! Or: Quiet, please! Don't be noisy.

Ти маєш попрацювати над цим звуком удома. You must practiсe this sound at home. You must train this sound at home. («to train» means to give teaching or practice to a child, a soldier or an animal in order to improve efficiency or physical condition, e.g. They trained their children to use good manners.)
Сьогоднішній урок ми присвятимо підготовці до контрольної. We'll spend today's lesson preparing for a test. We'll devote the lesson to preparation for a test. («to devote» is too elevated in a classroom situation)

Йди відповідати. Will you come (out) to the front? Come to the blackboard .(This is used when the teacher wants the pupil to write something on the blackboard.)
Можна сказати...? Can you say...? Is it possible to say...?
А так можна сказати? Can you say that/it like that?' Can you say so?
Як ти вважаєш? What do you think? How do you think?
Чому ти не відповідаєш? Why don't you answer? Why are you silent?
Не підказуй! Don't tell him' the answer! Or: No whispering the answer! Or: Don't help him! Don't prompt!
Ні, це неправильно. No, that isn't quite right. Or: You've got it wrong. Or: You're wrong. You are mistaken.
Мені здається, ти не знаєш цього правила. I don't think/believe you know this rule. Or: It seems to me you don't know this rule. To my mind you don't know this rule.
Ти це сказав навмання. You've said it without thinking. You've said it at random.

Читай швидше. Could you read a little faster? Or: Will you go a bit more quickly? Be quick! Quickly!
Ти маєш читати вголос щодня. You must/should try to read aloud every day. It is necessary that you read aloud every day.
Приберіть книги. Put your books away. Or: Put away your books. Hide your books.
Учитель, стоячи біля дошки, звертається до учня: Йди до дошки. Will you come (out) to the blackboard? Or: Come (out) to the blackboard, please. Go to the blackboard.
Принеси крейду. Will you go and fetch/get some chalk? Bring some chalk.

 

 

Дивіться, що він пише на дошці. Look at/Pay attention to what he is writing on the blackboard. Watch the blackboard.
Відійди у бік, будь ласка. Will you stand/move/step to one side? Or: Could you stand/move/step to one side, please? Step aside. (This word combination is used addressing someone blocking the way).
Ти бачиш, де у тебе помилка? Do you/Can you see your mistake? Do you realize your mistake? (This phrase can be used with regard to mistaken judgement, bad behaviour, not with regard to grammatical mistakes, wrong tense, etc.)
Підніміть руки. Put up your hands. Raise your hands.
Не всі разом. По одному. Don't all answer at once. One at a time. One by one.
Опустіть руки. Put your hands down. Lower your hands.
Зітри це слово. Rub off/out this word. Clean out this word.
Ти у крейді. You've got some chalk on you (on your sleeve, etc.). You are in chalk.
Розгорніть зошити. Open your exercise-books, please. Open your notebooks. Or: Open your copybooks.
Ти забув зошит удома? Have you left your exercise-book at home? Have you forgotten your exercise-book at home?7
У нього закінчився зошит. His exercise-book is full up. Or: He's finished his exercise- book. Or: He's come to the end of his exercise-book. His exercise-book is over/ finished.
У кого є зайвий зошит? Who has a spare exercise- book (to give him)? Who has an extra exercise-book?
Пиши акуратно. Can you try and write tidily/neatly? Write accurately.
