II. Перепишите предложения и переведите их на русский язык, принимая во внимание, что инфинитивные и причастные обороты соответствуют придаточным предложениям.

2. The sales of imported cars were reported to have increased sharply this year.

US Economy

1. The United States is known to be rich in natural resources, the main being iron ore and oil. The nation produces more than 100 million tons of iron a year. But for US great resources of iron ore, they could be exhausted. Four – fifth of the ore mined in the USA is used by power plants to produce electricity. Coal is also used in the chemical industries for the manufacture of plastics and other synthetics. As for petrol (called “gasoline” or “gas” in the USA) its production, processing and marketing make up one of America’s largest industries.
2. Both cattle breeding and pig raising are considered to be important for America’s agricultural. To make the farmer’s work more productive scientific methods and modern technique of freezing, canning and packaging farm products is used.
3. The United States being a highly industrialized country with various branches of heavy industry as well as engineering many branches of light industry are also developed, among them are the textile, food and wood – working industries. Many branches of industry are developed due to using labour – saving machines. In the past few years the number of workers has increased only a few per cent while the number of scientists and engineers in the plants has almost doubled. Without mechanization and automation it would have been impossible to intensify production and increase labour productivity. But they also bring about a further growth of unemployment.
4. New industries are created as new discoveries are made in physics, chemistry and other sciences.
